In the Selective Intercom Systems each apparatus is able to make a direct call to any other intercom of the
system: so, if you wish to contact a person that is in a place that you know, the intercom must send a connection request to
the intercom installed on his neighbourhood; you can start the connetction request by means of a simple control as pressing
a button or typing a code on a keyboard.
Vice versa, when the person that you wish to contact do not has a fixed place but he is moving within the area served by the
intercom system is preferable using a different strategy of calling by means of a
Ring Intercom System.
Since the intercoms over LAN are identified unambiguously by their IP address and each intercom operates directly over
the Ethernet network, in order to make a selective call is necessary to link each button or each code of the numeric keypad
to the IP address corresponding to the intercom with which you want to communicate.
In order to make this setting procedure we provide jointly with the intercoms the relevant setting software.
The call and subsequent conversation is managed by the two intercoms directly, without the need of interfaces,
servers or any other type of management and supervision units.
There are no special limits on simultaneous conversations that you can make because the communication is managed directly by the pair of devices involved in the call without the intervention of the remaining intercoms installed in the system; the only possible limitation is the availability of bandwidth on the LAN, but, whereas each active conversation requires only 170 Kbit, this limit is only hypothetical.
In the selective intercom systems over LAN, each intercom is a stand-alone device that interfaces the network directly and that manages the connections on the basis of the information stored on it, therefore, it offers several advantages:
- simplicity and economy of design and installation of the system
- readiness of maintenance both the intercom and the entire system (equipment adding, changes to the calling structure)
- high reliability of the system as the fault of an apparatus does not affect the operation of the remaining system
Several features enhance the possibility of operating the system, the main ones are:
- the possibility, on workstations with numeric keyboard and LCD display, to create a list of pending calls when simultaneous calls are present

the opportunity to make general or group announcements on the speakers of intercoms

the possibility, if the required intercom is not available, to automatically divert the call to a second intercom

the ability to control the relays on each intercom, both locally and remotely, on the basis of programmable criteria in order
to activate external auxiliary devices

the ability to supervise, from the intercoms with numeric keyboard and display, all the intercoms present on the system
and the ability to generate an alarm due to lack of connection or when the intercoms detect an incorrect functioning
(Self-Test that for hand-free intercoms include the functionality of the loudspeaker and of the microphone).
The Voice Over IP technology allows you to create a system of intercoms on an existing LAN, without having
to lay complex and expensive cable networks devoted exclusively to this service by saving costs and readiness of
nstallation.
In fact, thanks to the IP address that uniquely identifies each selective intercom over the LAN, intercoms can coexist with
other systems dedicated to different services; moreover this technique allows you at any time to expand the system
by simply adding on the LAN a new intercom with a new IP address.
